Affton High School and Missouri Baptist University are mourning the loss of former student Esmond Ford, who died Tuesday in Atlanta. Ford was a standout wrestler at Affton and went on to wrestle for Missouri Baptist. He was the son of Devon Ford and Edwenda Ford. His siblings include Devon, Jr. (called D.J.) and Theresa. Ford's father was a coach at Affton High School.

MIssouri Baptist University released the following statement:  

"The Missouri Baptist University and Athletics Community was saddened to learn today of the death of former Missouri Baptist Wrestler Esmond Ford. His passing in the Atlanta Metro Area last night was a sad reminder of how precious life is.

"While at Missouri Baptist, Esmond was a light and a leader on the wrestling team through his five years with the team. As a freshman in 2009, he competed at 125lbs, but continued to advance in weight class and skill, finishing as a competitor at 141lbs. Prior to his time at Missouri Baptist, he was a standout wrestler and football player at Affton High School.

"The entire Missouri Baptist Community mourns today for Esmond Ford. Our hearts and all of our prayers go out to his family and friends whom have been affected by this terrible tragedy."

There will be a prayer vigil for Esmond Ford's family Thurs Oct. 6th 6:30 at Affton High School.

They encourage everyone to wear purple and gold and bring balloons and/or candles. There will be a small memorial and a collection box for cards for the family.
