- Luke Weaver haa another solid start; Matt Carpenter, Dexter Fowler  and Paul DeJong homered as the Cardinals beat the Reds 9-2 Wednesday night, moving 2 1/2 games out of the second wild-card spot with 11 games left in the regular-season.

- Carlos Martinez will get the start tonight as the Cardinals try to complete the series sweep in Cincinnati. Homer Bailey is scheduled to start for the Reds.

- Vladimir Tarasenko's overtime goal gave the Blues a 3-2 win over the Columbua Blue Jackets in their pre-season home opener Wednesday night at Scottrade Center. Tarasenko also scored a power-play goal in the first period before Jaden Schwartz tied the game with a short-handed goal in the second period.

- Earlier Wednesday the Blues learned forward Alexander Steen will be out at least three weeks because of a hand injury suffered in the first pre-season game Tuesday night in Dallas.

- The pre-season will continue on Friday night when the Blues play the Capitals in Washington, D.C.
