LEADOFF QUICK HITTER NEWS

Sunday, July 24, 2016

- A failure to get an out on a sacrifice bunt attempt led to a four-run third inning and sent the Dodgers to a 7-2 win over Mike Leake and the Cardinals Saturday night at Busch Stadium.

- The loss snapped the Cardinals' winning streak at five games, which had tied their longest streak of the season. They failed to pick up a game on the Cubs, who lost 6-1 to the Brewers.

- Mike Mayers, a 24-year-old right-hander, will come up from Triple A Memphis to make his major-league debut as the Cardinals' starting pitcher for tonight's game against the Dodgers. Mayers will be only the sixth starter used by the Cardinals this season, with the extra starter needed because of the rainout on Tuesday and doubleheader on Wednesday. The Cardinals will have to make a roster move before the game to open a spot for Mayers.
