- While the Cardinals braced for the test results on Trevor Rosenthal's right elbow, they might also be facing a problem with Adam Wainwright, who had another poor start Thursday night before the Cardinals rallied from a 5-1 deficit to defeat the Pirates 11-7 in Pittsburgh.

- Wainwright threw only one of his 55 pitches over three innings at more than 89 miles per hour, and that 90 miles per hour fastball still resulted in an RBI single. For the second consecutive game he failed to record a strikeout.

- Rosenthal had to leave Wednesday night's game in Boston because of a sore elbow and underwent tests Thursday in St. Louis. An update on his status is expected today.

- On the field, the rally was led by three RBIs from Dexter Fowler, whose triple in the seventh inning drove in the tying and go-ahead runs, and he then scored on a single by Yadier Molina. Jedd Gyorko and Tommy Pham also homered.

- Carlos Martinez will get the start tonight in the second game of the series against Trevor Williams.
