Warren Powers delivers speech despite Alzheimers- video, pictures, story of his life

Those who know that Warren Powers is battling with Alzheimers Disease wondered if he would speak when being inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, but he surprised them all by delivering his acceptance speech himself. Powers read a prepared statement but looked strong and confident as he expressed his gratitude at being inducted.

The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday night inducted former St. Louis Cardinals speedster Vince Coleman, former Mizzou Football coach Warren Powers, Mizzou broadcaster Mike Kelly, plus 12 other individuals as well as a college baseball program and a high school baseball program and its late coach.

- Matt Carpenter became the first Cardinals player in history with five extra-base hits in a game - three homers and two doubles - and drove in seven runs on Friday in an 18-5 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. He hit a leadoff homer in the first, a two-run homer in the secibdm gad twi doubles in a seven-run fourth and hit a three-run homer in the sixth before coming out of the game with the Cardinals leading 15-1.

- Carpenter's 16 total bases tied the franchise record set by Mark Whten when he hit four homers in a game in 1993. He tied Lou Brock's record with 21 leadoff homers in his career.

- The Cardinals and Cubs play a day-night doubleheader today, with Luke Weaver and John Gant the scheduled starters for the Cardinals..
