Cards to open playoffs with 4 p.m. game on Thursday

The Cardinals will play at 4:07 p.m. Thursday in the first game of the Division Series at Busch Stadium against the winner of the wild card game Tuesday night between the Pirates and Reds. Game time for the second game of the series on Friday will be12:07 p.m.

- Matt Carpenter became the first Cardinals player in history with five extra-base hits in a game - three homers and two doubles - and drove in seven runs on Friday in an 18-5 win over the Cubs at Wrigley Field. He hit a leadoff homer in the first, a two-run homer in the secibdm gad twi doubles in a seven-run fourth and hit a three-run homer in the sixth before coming out of the game with the Cardinals leading 15-1.

- Carpenter's 16 total bases tied the franchise record set by Mark Whten when he hit four homers in a game in 1993. He tied Lou Brock's record with 21 leadoff homers in his career.

- The Cardinals and Cubs play a day-night doubleheader today, with Luke Weaver and John Gant the scheduled starters for the Cardinals..
