- Trevor Rosenthal earned his first save since May 2 but it wasn't easy as he gave up a run in the ninth but the Cardinals hung on for a 4-3 win Wednesday night in Arizona. Both the Brewers and Cubs lost so despite being five games under .500 the Cardinals are just 3 1/2 games out of first in the NL Central.

- Before the game the Cardinals optioned shortstiop Aledmys Diaz to Memphis and purchased the contract of Alex Mejia from the Triple A club. Diaz had a ,260 average but his 71 hits were the most on the team. 

- Lance Lynn will get the start in the final game of the series, which begins at 2:40 p.m. today St. Louis time.

- The Blues will be without forward Patrik Berglung until December after he underwent shoulder surgery. The Blues announced Berglund was injured doing a workout in his native Sweden.
