- The Cardinals were in desperate need of a well-pitched game from Carlos Martinez on Thursday night but didn’t get it. He didn’t get much help from the offense or defense, either, Martinez pitched just four innings, giving up seven runs, and the Brewers went on to beat the Cardinals 11-3. It was their seventh loss in nine games.

- The offense had just two hits through seven innings, one a leadoff homer by Matt Carpenter, and the defense committed a season-high four errors.

- Jack Flaherty will get the start tonight in the second game of the series.

- The Blues have the 29th pick in the first round of the NHL draft tonight. They acquired the pick from the Winnipeg Jets in the trade involving Paul Stastny.

- The Blues announced their 2018-19 regular-season schedule on Thursday. They will open the season at home on Oct. 4 against Winnipeg and also host Chicago and Calgary in their first homestand.
