As the preparations of the holidays begin to stress you out, why not plan a short get-away. always encourages “Road Trips.” Last week we featured a trip to Bardstown, Kentucky. For those who like a drive in the mountains, may we suggest Chattanooga, Tennessee.

It’s a not a bad drive from St. Louis – just over six and a half hours (438.6 mi). Chattanooga is ready for Christmas and open for visitors.

They have a new Holiday Trail of Lights. The trail has eight major points of interest featuring millions of twinkling lights at Chattanooga’s top holiday attractions. Visitors will also get to enjoy a varied array of festivals, holiday events, delicious holiday meals, Santa sightings, shopping, and live music and entertainment scattered throughout the city.

With so much to do on the Trail of Lights, visitors should plan for at least a weekend to immerse yourself in the magic. Several accommodations offer special holiday packages that include overnight accommodations, tickets to holiday attractions and events, restaurant vouchers, and even some chocolate-covered strawberries and champagne.

The Chattanoogan-- an upscale hotel in downtown Chattanooga is offering a host of overnight packages, family-friendly holiday events and seasonal activities.   

The new North Pole Limited Package is an incredible holiday adventure for all ages. Participants will enjoy a delightful 75-minute train ride journey aboard the Tennessee Valley Railroad on the imaginary journey to the North Pole. Along the way, guests will be treated to refreshments, storytelling and sing-a-longs. As the Christmas train gently rolls down the rails, a number of lighted displays can be seen outside. 

Once the train pulls into the “North Pole,” Santa boards the train for a visit and gives children a keepsake gift. The North Pole Limited Package includes tickets aboard the North Pole train ride; deluxe overnight accommodations; breakfast in the hotel’s Broad Street Grille; a welcome treat with hand-made cookies and hot cocoa; and valet parking. The package is available on select dates in November and December and rates start at $175. 

Brunch with Santa – Each Sunday in December before Christmas (December 3, 10 and 17), Santa Clause will be visiting with guests at the hotel’s award-winning brunch. Little ones will enjoy sharing their holiday wishes with Santa and the special buffet that is created just for them. Adults will appreciate the signature brunch with a carving station, omelet station, waffle stations, champagne, mimosas, desserts and more. The Santa Clause Brunch is $24.95 for adults, $12.95 for children who are 4-12, and free for little ones who are under three years old.   

Christmas Feast –Executive Chef Tanner Marino and his culinary team will be preparing a wide assortment of delicious dishes, including a seafood display, Beef Tenderloin, Ham, Rotisserie Chicken, made to order omelets and dozens of other items for Christmas. The meal will be served in the hotel’s beautifully decorated ballroom from 11a.m. - 4 p.m., and is $45 for adults, $20 for children who are five – 12 and complimentary for children under five.   

New Year’s Celebration – Guests can ring in the New Year at The Chattanoogan. The hotel’s Celebration Package includes deluxe overnight accommodations; an elegant multi-course dinner served in the beautifully decorated ballroom; admission to the New Year’s Party with live entertainment by The Power Players; a champagne toast at midnight; and New Year’s Day breakfast buffet for hotel guests only. The New Year’s Dinner will begin with an hors d'œuvre reception followed by a plated sit-down dinner of Lobster Bisque, Baby Romaine Wedge, Grilled Filet Mignon, and an incredible assortment of delectable desserts. Chattanooga is conveniently located within a two-hour drive from Atlanta, Georgia or Nashville, Tenn. – both could be desitnations for those going to Spring Training.
