SEC action continues this weekend in Knoxville when Mizzou’s Tigers will take on the University of Tennessee’s Volunteers. Neylar Stadium along with the adjoining parking lots packed with tailgaters is a site to see. However, once the action on the gridiron stops there’s still plenty to savor and explore in Knoxville.

Bowl a game: Bowling was one of Knoxville’s first favorite sports dating to the 1850s. That’s when bowlers and spectators flocked to Peter R. Knott’s Bowling Saloon on Market Square. Relive the past and rent a ball and shoes at the Maple Hall Bowling, located Downtown Knoxville.

Take in the view: Visit the Sunsphere, built for the 1982 World’s Fair, whose golden glass panes are actually infused with gold dust, provides a 360 view of Knoxville from it recently renovated Observation Deck. Or, dine at the top (5th floor) for a dining experience with the ultimate window view.

Get the Blue Plate Special: Take in a live performance radio show, the WDVX Blue Plate Special. Held six days a week at noon inside the Knoxville Visitors Center, the free show offers some of Tennessee’s best music ranging from bluegrass to blues, country, folk and funk to rockabilly.

Rent a boat: Join the Volunteer Navy on game day or just float peacefully along the river from Volunteer Landing Marina, situated at the headwaters of the Tennessee River- mile marker 648 in Downtown Knoxville. A great location that’s just minutes from The University of Tennessee campus, Downtown Market Square and Knoxville's Historic Old City.

Eat up. SEC’s and Knoxville’s fan favorites considered must dine before you die or at least leave the Knoxville area are Calhoun’s (on the river) for great ribs and wings and Litton’s Market and Restaurants for the best burger for the recommended Thunder Road Burger topped with pimento cheese grilled onions and jalapenos. And finally, if Mizzou wins celebrate big at Ye Olde Steak House, a Knoxville classic and a carnivore haven since 1968 where chargrilled steaks, seafood and fried chicken are available to fill your plate.
