Sports are often an unlikely connector to many things. Such is the case of the first touring production of Fun Home, the Tony Award winning best musical of 2015, which opens at the Fabulous Fox Theatre November 15. Counted among its stars is nine year old actor Pierson Salvador.

So what’s the sports connection? Pierson’s dad Bryce Salvador retired NHL hockey defenseman who helped advance the puck down the ice for the St. Louis Blues fro four seasons (2000-2004). Blues fans may remember Salvador who created a program with teammate Jamel Mayers called Jam 'n Sal's Community Stars, which recognizes kids who perform small acts of kindness and generosity. (Bryce Salvador is shown in the photo, right with his son Pierson)

While the Blues will take to the ice during Fun Home’s run it’s doubtful Pierson will make it to a game. Instead he’ll be on stage portraying one of the show’s key roles. An honor considering only two other young actors have preformed the part, making Person the first to establish the role of Christian on the national tour.

Fun Home, which won theater’s hat trick – three Tony’s for best musical, best book and original score - was the event of the 2015 Broadway season and is based on Alison Bechdel’s best-selling graphic memoir that introduces theatre-goers to Alison at three different ages as she explores and unravels the many mysteries of her childhood that connect with her in surprising new ways. A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, Fun Home has been applauded as a refreshingly honest, wholly original musical about seeing your parents through grown-up eyes.

As a nod to Pierson Salvador’s first appearance in his dad’s former NHL hometown The Fox if offering two tickets for another great giveaway. Anyone who counts themselves a fan of both STL theatre and the NHL take note and enter to win.
