-  Michael Wacha enjoyed his best start of the season, allowing just four hits over seven shutout innings, and he got plenty of offensive support as the Cardinals pounded the Rockies 7-0 Friday night at Busch Stadium.

- Matt Carpenter hit his third homer in two games, Stephen Piscotty doubled in two runs and Jhonny Peralta added a two-run homer as the Cardinals tied their season high of 29 games above 500 (66-37). They finished July with a 15-12 record for the month, their 19th consecutive month of playing .500 or better. Their last losing record was June 2012.

-  The Cardinals made their third trade in a week before Friday's deadline for non-waiver deals, acquiring reliever Jonathan Broxton from the Brewers along with cash in exchange for minor-league outfielder Malik Collymore, who was playing at rookie-level Johnson City.

- Lance Lynn will get the start in tonight's game while Jorge De La Rosa is scheduled to start for the Rockies.
