- Joey Votto’s three-run homer off Jaime Garcia, one of his three hits, was all Mike Leake and the Reds needed to defeat the Cardinals 4-0 Tuesday night at Busch Stadium.
- It was only the second time the Cardinals were shut out at home this season. The first time was on June 1, a 1-0 loss to Milwaukee, when Garcia was also the starter and losing pitcher.
- The win gives the Reds a chance to win a series in St. Louis for the first time since 2011 in the final game of the series tonight. John Lackey will start for the Cardinals while Anthony DeSciafani is scheduled to make his first career start against the Cardinals for the Reds.
