LEADOFF QUICK HITTER NEWS

TuesDay, July 7, 2015 

 - Jhonny Peralta broke up a no-hit bid by Jon Lester with one out in the seventh and the Cardinals went on to defeat the Cubs 6-0 Monday night in Chicago. John Lackey worked seven innings for the win, allowing six hits, as the Cardinals posted their eighth shutout of the season.

- Before the game, Yadier Molina and pitchers Michael Wacha and Trevor Rosenthal were named to the NL squad for the All-Star game next week in Cincinnati. Molina will be going to the game for the seventh time while Wacha and Rosenthal will each be making their first appearance at the game.

- Carlos Martinez was named one of the five candidates for the final vote and will find out later this week if he will be joining his teammates in Cincinnati.

- The Cardinals will play a day-night double-header today against the Cubs, their first double-header of the season Tyler Lyons will start the day game for the Cardinals and Tim Cooney the night game.
