LEADOFF QUICK HITTER NEWS

TuesDay, Sept. 1, 2015

- Jason Heyward had the biggest hit in a five-run seventh inning – a two-run double – which gave the Cardinals the 8-5 comeback victory over the Nationals Monday night at Busch Stadium.

- The Cardinals had fallen behind 5-3 in the top of the seventh before rallying for their 33rd come-from-behind win this season. The win improved their record to 85-46, the first time they have been 39 games over .500 since Sept. 21, 2005. They picked up a half game on the idle Pirates and now lead the NL Central by five games.

- Marco Gonzales will be recalled from Memphis to start tonight's game against the Nationals instead of Carlos Martinez. The Cardinals said Martinez has been dealing with a tight back and they also have been looking to give him some rest. Because rosters can be expanded on Sept. 1 no other roster move is needed before Gonzales can be activated. Joe Ross is scheduled to start for the Nationals.
