- Matt Carpenter's home run streak ended on Sunday. The streak of bad performances from Cardinals' relievers did not. The Cubs scored five runs off Mike Mayers and Brett Cecil to turn a 2-2 game into a 7-2 win in the final game of the series at Wrigley Field. In the five game series the Cubs scored a combined 19 runs in 18 innings against the Cardinals' bullpen.

- Carpenter was 1-of-4 as his streak of hitting at least one home run ended at a team-record six games. His only hit was a bunt single, snapping his streak of consecutive extra-base hits at 12, also a franchise record.

- Daniel Poncedeleon will be recalled from Memphis to make his major-league debut tonight as the Cardinals open a three-game series in Cincinnati. Poncedeleon was on the major-league roster for a week earlier this season but did not pitch.
