Halak earns second shutout in 3-0 win over Nashville

Jaroslav Halak earned his second shutout of the young season for the Blues Thursday night — and he did not have to work very hard to get it. The St. Louis defense limited Nashville to only 13 shots on goal and Patrik Berglund scored on a penalty shot and assisted on a power-play goal by T.J. Oshie to lead the Blues to a 3-0 victory over the Predators.

Musial's death prompts personal memories of why he was The Man

One of my greatest regrets as a baseball writer, and as a life-long fan of the game, is that I never got to see Stan Musial play. I missed him by one year.

The first game I ever saw at the first Busch Stadium was in 1964 when I was eight years old, making the trip from my home in Springfield, Mo., with my mom and older brother. Musial had retired the year before.

Tarasenko scores two goals as Blues win opener


The lockout forced Vladimir Tarasenko to delay his NHL debut with the St. Louis Blues, but it turned out to be worth the wait.

The 20-year-old Tarasenko, who had been playing in his native Russia during the lockout, scored the first two goals of his NHL career Saturday night — on his first two shots — to lead the Blues to a 6-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Blues announce schedule, will play Detroit plenty early

The St. Louis Blues will have to be ready for some tough tests in the first few weeks of the condensed 48-game schedule, officially released by the team and the NHL on Saturday.

Four of the Blues’ first 13 games of the season will be against the Detroit Red Wings, including the season opener on Saturday, Jan. 19. The game at Scottrade Center will begin at 7 p.m.

True. Real men and women both fry turkeys,which explains why it has become a popular method to prepare the annual Thanksgiving bird.  Why fried instead of roasted?  It’ saves time and provides a lovely bronzed crisp skin with wonderfully moist meat.

 - The Blues suffered their second loss of the week in a key Central Division game on Friday night, falling 2-1 to the Stars in Dallas. The Blues were shut out by St. Louis native Ben Bishop until Brayden Schenn scored on a power play with just 1:14 left in the game. The loss dropped the Blues into a tie with the Stars for third in the division, but they have played two more games than Dallas.

- The Blues' next game will be on Tuesday night, when they host the San Jose Sharks.

- The Cardinals lost pitching prospect Rowan Wick to the San Diego Padres on Friday. The Padres claimed Wick on waivers after the Cardinals designated him for assignment so they could open a roster spot for Bud Norris.
