Apparently the Cardinals’ injury jinx on Star Wars night includes road games.

For the fourth time in the last five years, the Cardinals saw a player have to leave the game on that themed night when Jose Martinez suffered a groin injury running out a ground ball on Saturday night in Atlanta.

Martinez appears headed to the disabled list, the second outfielder making that trip in the last two days. Martinez will return to St. Louis on Sunday for further medical evaluation.

A corresponding roster move has not been announced.

Martinez was hurt in the first inning, forcing the Cardinals to insert Matt Adams into the game in left field because Dexter Fowler, while not on the DL, is still not able to play in the field because of his shoulder injury.

Starting in 2013, the Cardinals had three players injured on consecutive Star Wars nights at Busch Stadium – Shelby Miller, Adams and Matt Holliday. Last year was the only season the Cardinals avoided the injury jinx.

After scoring one run in the first inning, the Cardinals built a 5-0 lead before holding off the Braves for their second consecutive win and fifth in a row on the road. The Cardinals also have won their last five games in Atlanta, sweeping the Braves at Turner Field last April.

Here is how the game broke down:

At the plate:
Matt Carpenter hit his sixth homer, and second in as many games, a two-run shot in the third to help build the Cardinals’ lead … Aledmys Diaz, hitting fifth in the batting order, stayed hot with three hits and a sacrifice fly, driving in two runs. He is a combined 10-of-13 in the last three games … Adams, inserted into the lineup after Martinez was hurt, had a single and home run in four at-bats. The homer was hist first of the season … Kolten Wong, hitting leadoff the second consecutive game, extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a slow roller down the third base line in the first inning.

On the mound:
Mike Leake improved his record to 4-1, allowing just three hits in seven innings. One of the hits was a three-run homer by Adonis Garcia in the seventh, the first home run Leake has allowed this season … Leake allowed only one hit, a second-inning single by Nick Markakis, through the first six innings … In the seventh, Matt Kemp doubled with one out before a walk preceded the home run … Trevor Rosenthal pitched the eighth and Seung Hwan Oh the ninth, earning his seventh save.

Key stat:
Diaz became the first Cardinal to record three or more hits in three consecutive games since Matt Holliday did it in 2009. The franchise record for most consecutive three-hit games is four, accomplished eight times, but the only player to do it since Stan Musial in 1946 was Bill White in 1961.

Worth noting:
The only outfielder on the 40-man roster not in the big leagues is Magneuris Sierra, who is playing at Class A Palm Beach. The Cardinals do have a open spot on the 40-man roster after outrighting Anthony Garcia a couple of weeks ago … Jedd Gyorko was in the original lineup but was scratched because of a sore wrist suffered on a bad hop grounder on Friday night. He did pinch-hit in the eighth inning and stayed in the game at third, with Diaz finishing the game in left field … Playing his second rehab game at Palm Beach, Jhonny Peralta had a pair of singles and struck out in three at-bats … For what it’s worth, the Star Wars theme night at Busch Stadium this year is set for July 26.

Looking ahead: The Cardinals will send Michael Wacha to the mound on Sunday to try to complete the sweep of the three-game series. R.A. Dickey will pitch for the Braves.
