Game Report: Cardinals 10, Braves 0

Dropping down to sixth in the Cardinals’ batting order seems to agree with Aledmys Diaz.

In his second game since he was moved out of the second spot in the order, Diaz went 4-for-4 and also drew a walk, driving in three runs, to lead the Cardinals over the Braves in their first game in the new Sun Trust Park.

In the two games he has hit sixth Diaz has seven hits in nine at-bats.

The 10 runs matched the season high for the Cardinals.

Here is how the game broke down:

At the plate: Tommy Pham rejoined the Cardinals from Memphis and hit a two-run homer, as well as a double, to aid the team’s 16-hit attack … Matt Carpenter also hit a two-run homer, his fifth of the season, drew three walks and scored three runs … The Cardinals hit six doubles, including two by Jose Martinez, who replaced Stephen Piscotty in right field … The four hits by Diaz raised his season average to .264.

On the mound: Lance Lynn worked six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks, while striking out six. He raised his record to 4-1 and lowered his ERA to 2.04 … Kevin Siegrist, Jonathan Broxton and Miguel Socolovich each pitched an inning to complete the shutout.

Key stat: In his last four starts, all wins, Lynn has allowed two runs in a combined 25 innings, allowing 16 hits and striking out 23.

Worth noting
: Pham replaced Piscotty, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list after injuring his hamstring on Thursday night … After fearing that Dexter Fowler also would need to go on the DL because of a strained shoulder suffered on Thursday night, an MRI on Friday came back negative and he rejoined the team in time for the game. He has been cleared to hit but likely won’t be able to play in the field for a couple of days … The two games rained out on the last homestand will be made up in June. The Cardinals and Brewers will play a split-doubleheader on June 13, and the game asked the Reds will be played on June 26, which had been a day off. Because of the makeups, the Cardinals will play on 46 of 48 days between May 23 and the All-Star break, playing 47 games … Jhonny Peralta began a rehab assignment at Class A Palm Beach, where he grounded out and struck out in two at-bats … At Double A Springfield, Jack Flaherty raised his record to 5-0 as he allowed one run on two hits over seven innings, recording 12 strikeouts. His ERA for the season is now 0.69.

Looking ahead
