Weather: Rain, 70 degrees

High: The rain held off long enough for the scheduled pitchers to complete their bullpen sessions on the mound and not in the batting cages.

Low: The rain forced the hitters into the batting cages on the day of the first full-squad workout. … Pitcher Marc Rzepczynski was sent home early because he was sick.

In the clubhouse: Only two players were missing on the first day. Pitcher Carlos Martinez is still absent because of visa problems traveling from the Dominican Republic, and infielder Ronny Cedeno also was not in camp. The Cardinals are hoping Cedeno will arrive in time to participate in Saturday’s workout.

Off the field: It was Mitchell Boggs’ birthday on Friday, and he reported some of the folks in his hometown of Dalton, Ga., were not happy with him and the Cardinals after they beat Atlanta in the wild-card playoff game last October which featured the now infamous infield fly call.

“I almost got in a fistfight while I was getting a haircut after I got home,” Boggs said. “A guy called it the worst call in the history of sports. I guess he forgot it was a routine fly ball and they were already down three runs at the time.”
