If you have never been to Jupiter, Florida for Spring Training maybe it’s time you go. Depending on the time frame you come in there are different aspects of Cardinal baseball.

Right now until the games start fans are welcome to stroll over to the back fields of Roger Dean Stadium and watch the players work you. An untrained eye really can’t tell if a player is doing well or not, but it’s great to see the players in their red and white out there on the fields whether it’s stretching, running, doing drills or taking batting practice or bullpen.

Spring Training at Roger Dean Stadium

Most days it’s sunny with blue skies and palm trees around the field. For those staying in the condos at Abacoa, all they have to do is walk across the street. Abacoa is a big condo development that does long-term leasing. Click here for the Spring Training Schedule.

For those staying at the Homewood Suites, all they need to do is tell the front desk they want a free shuttle ride over to Roger Dean Stadium and they are ready for their hassle-free relaxing day out in the sunshine with baseball as the backdrop.

To a baseball fan, few feelings in the world can top the leisurely feeling of watching practice before the games start.

The whole team is in camp. The Sports Zone Show with Rob Rains and B.J. Rains is broadcasting live from the green picnic table at Roger Dean Stadium. Be sure to tune in from 1-3 or listen to the show on your computer.

At age 90, Red Schoendienst is riding around on his golf cart watching the player and offering his tips. Many players have arrived either lighter or heavier after doing an eating plan and we will have more on that in a future article.

Jupiter, Florida is located in Palm Beach County on the Atlantic side of the state. Juno Beach is in Jupiter and the sun rises over the beach. Sunset is beautiful though as there is a fishing pier and large waves and lots of shells on the beach to collect.

Here are a few things going on in Jupiter that you might want to plan your trip around:

Hotel and Lodging

We are promoting the Homewood Suites as it is the headquarters for the Sports Zone Show with Rob Rains and B.J. Rains and also the “All-New” StLSportsPage.com. There are inexpensive hotels you can find on the discount sites if you want to go that routel, but we find that by staying at the Homewood Suites—at the special rate they give our listeners and readers when they use the promotional code “Good Neighbor Rate”—we actually save money and hassles.

Included in your stay: Free shuttle to the ballpark. Roger Dean Stadium does not have a parking lot and it’s a fight to the finish to get a parking place on the street with the Abaca Village and shops across the street. Especially if you come for Arti-Gras, the shuttle will make it so much more easier which translates into enjoyable.

Also, if you have pets, you pay a little extra but it is nothing compared to boarding them at the local pet hotels, so that is an added value.

In the evenings, it is a pleasant walk amidst the palm trees and twinkling lights next door to the row of restaurants.

Beef Jerky is a hit

The Homewood Suites has a little shop and one of the hits of the shop is the Tender Jerky beef jerky-- that's right we're promoting beef jerky. Several nights a week they have a promotional table set up with products from the Tender Beef Jerky company and we were pleasantly surprised at how good it is. The owner told us they make it from the best cuts of beef, with very little salt added. They have 5 different flavors. ORIGINAL for those who don't like spicy, SMOKY MOUNTAIN MOONSHINE, which has a little heat and those who prefer spicy should try their famous NUKIN' FUTS beef jerky. Check out their website for more information.

Karaoke Night at Homewood Suites- Feb. 20

Each month they schedule Karaoke Night so if you happen to be at the Homewood Suites during that night it is a lot of fun. Employees from the hotel come out and start it off. General Manager Liz Oliver has a great voice and so does Sales Manager Christie Netzel. Half of the fun was listening to them sing and getting a free concert. Free wine and beer were offered and we look forward to the next one. Even if you don't want to sing-- and that would include Rob Rains-- it's a fun evening at the hotel.

Restaurant near Homewood Suites we love: Burger Bar

Our personal favorite is Burger Bar, which is a unique, chrome and red decorated indoor/outdoor restaurant bar. The outdoor seating area features fire pits in a casual setting. The dishes are prepared by their chef who offers many one of a kind dishes. We enjoy eating here and this is the venue w chose for our upcoming Sports Zone / StLSportsPage.com Homewood Suites Pep Rally Happy Hour.

What else at the Homewood Suites?

For those who like to work out, the Homewood Suites has a work-out center which is very adequate or your room key gets you into the full-service Gold’s Gym which is also in walking distance.

Publix Super Market is across the street as is Walgreen and a walk-in medical clinic.

Mondays-Thursdays you don’t even have to spend any extra money on dinner and entertainment as the Homewood Suites provides dinner complete with wine and beer. They have a large-screen tv in the lobby area with couches and chairs for comfort.

The beach is just a mile away, very easy to get to, so for those who enjoy seeing the Atlantic Ocean, Juno Beach is nearby with a parking lot and restrooms available.

How will you keep up with the Blues, Mizzou and SLU while in Florida? Duffy

Duffy’s Sports Grill

Duffy’s Sports Grill is the best restaurant/sports bar we’ve been to. What we love about Duffy’s is that it is so clean and the décor is like a beautiful Irish restaurant, but tastefully all over the place are the various big-screen televisions.

The bar area is the loud, sports bar atmosphere, but throughout the restaurant—which has great food, not the greasy bar food one might expect at a big sports bar—are many televisions so you can request whichever game you want to watch to be turned on your television.

Duffys is perfect to take the family, as the non-sports fan will enjoy the food and atmosphere while the sports fan doesn’t miss any of the games.

Palm Beach and Miami are Nearby

For those who like to see the lifestyles of the rich and famous, the Palm Beach area boasts of the Worth Avenue area which has the famous Au Bar that the Kennedys made famous as well as a short ride from there along the coast are the fancy homes including the “Kennedy Compound” and homes of other well-known celebrities.

Miami is where the Kardashian family have their “Dash” store which has been featured in the “Kim and Khourtney Take Miami” and previously “Khloe and Khourtney Take Miami”. Dash is the exclusive apparel store owned by the Kardashians.

There is also the South Beach nightlife. One of the famous places to go is Wet Willie's managed by St. Louis native, Lindbergh High School native, Tim Tucker.

Sea World and Disney attractions are just two hour away

We love Sea World- If you have never been to Sea World, be sure to build it into your trip. There are great shows with of course, the famous orca whales, but there is so much more to Sea World. A little something for everyone, Sea World offers rides, shows, and creatures of the sea.

Bottom Line

If you have vacation time coming and you want to get away, come down to Spring Training. We would be happy to answer any questions or help give suggestions. Just email us at: SportsZone1380@gmail.com.
