Game Report: Stars 3, Blues 2 (overtime)

The biggest problem the Blues have had this season – scoring goals – cost them again on Saturday as they lost in overtime to the Stars in Dallas.

The Blues’ two goals marked the seventh time in their last nine games they have scored two goals or less. They are 1-5-1 in those seven games.

Earning one point left the Blues with 75 points, tied with Colorado one point behind the Anaheim Ducks in the battle for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.

A goal by Jaden Schwartz at 12:43 of the third period put the Blues in front 2-1, but Alexander Radulov tied the game on a goal with 2:56 to play, sending it to overtime, where Jamie Benn’s goal at 3:04 won it for the Stars.

The two teams had exchanged goals in the second period, with Ivan Barbishev scoring for the Blues.

The Blues once again were shut out on four power plays. They have scored only one power play goal in their last 20 chances, spanning their last five games.

Carter Hutton stopped 31 of 34 shots by the Stars, while Ben Bishop saved 35 of the Blues’ 37 shots.

The Blues lost Scottie Upshall and Jay Bouwmeester to lower-body injuries during the game but the extent of their injuries was not immediately known. Robert Bortuzzo was activated from injured reserve before the game.

Looking ahead: The Blues are off until Thursday, when their road trip continues in San Jose with a game against the Sharks. They then head to southern California to play both the Ducks and Los Angeles Kings.
