Game Report: Stars 2, Blues 1

The Blues suffered their second loss of the week in a key Central Division game on Friday night, falling to the Stars in Dallas.

The loss left the Blues and Stars tied for third in the division with 72 points, but the Blues have played two more games than Dallas.

A shot that deflected off the leg of defenseman Carl Gunnarsson past goalie Jake Allen gave the Stars a 1-0 lead early in the second period. The goal came with the Stars on a power play following a tripping penalty to Colton Parayko.

That lead stood up until the Stars scored again midway through the third period.

Trailing 2-0, the Blues went on a four-minute power play with just 4:18 left in the game when John Klingberg was assessed a double minor penalty for high sticking Vladimir Sobotka. After failing to score in the first half of the penalty, they pulled Allen for a 6-on-4 advantage and Brayden Schenn was able to beat Ben Bishop off a pass from Jaden Schwartz with 1:14 left.

The Blues kept Allen off the ice for a 6-on-5 advantage but could not come up with the tying goal.

Bishop, a St. Louis native, stopped 28 of 29 shots by the Blues, who also lost 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday night in Nashville, a game they led 3-0 midway through the third period.

The Stars had only 16 shots on goal, with Allen making 14 saves.

Looking ahead:
The Blues will be back at home on Tuesday night to host the San Jose Stars before they jump back into division games with matchups against Winnipeg, Nashville and Minnesota.
