Game Report: Blues 5, Jets 2

Two of the most frustrated players on the Blues were able to finally exhale a little on Friday night.

Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice and Jake Allen won his first game since Dec. 23 as the Blues put on an impressive show in Winnipeg to hand the Jets only their fourth regulation loss at home this season and first since Dec. 14.

The win was the second in as many nights against a division opponent and increased the Blues’ point total to 71, holding onto third place in the Central Division

Tarasenko’s first goal of the game, his 22nd of the year, came 4:18 into the second period and ignited a three-goal period for the Blues as they opened a 3-0 lead. Patrik Berglund and Alexander Steen scored the other goals in the period in a span of 1:26.

After the Jets cut the lead to 3-2 early in the third period, Tarasenko scored again to restore the two-goal lead and Jaden Schwartz capped the scoring with an empty net goal in the closing seconds.

The Blues had gone 26 games without scoring more than three goals before Thursday night’s 6-2 win at home over Colorado and now have topped four goals in consecutive games for the first time this season.

It was the first two-goal game for Tarasenko since Nov. 21. He had scored a combined two goals in his previous 10 games.

Allen made 20 saves as the Blues were able to limit the high-scoring Jets to just 22 shots on goal. The win snapped his personal seven-game losing streak and was just his second win since Dec. 10.

Worth noting:
The Blues announced Friday that defenseman Joel Edmundson will miss at least six weeks because of a broken right arm. He was injured blocking a shot against the Avalanche … Veteran Chris Butler was recalled from San Antonio but was a healthy scratch.

Looking ahead:
The Blues return home to host the Pittsburgh Penguins in a rare day game on Sunday. The game begins at 11:20 a.m.
