Game Report: Blues 1, Sabres 0

With their dads watching from the stands, Carter Hutton and Carl Gunnarsson game them a lot to cheer about on Saturday night.

On the second game of the Blues’ annual dad’s trip, Hutton recorded his second shut out in his last four games and Gunnarsson scored the only goal of the game as the Blues defeated the Sabres in Buffalo.

Hutton improved to 4-0 in those last four games, during which he has stopped 121 of 123 shots. He made 27 saves against the Sabres for his third shutout of the year and 11th of his career.

The game was scoreless until Gunnarsson scored with just 5:41 left, getting a shot through traffic for his fifth goal of the season.

A penalty on Gunnarrson with 2:26 to play for interference put the Sabres on the power play, and they also pulled goalie Robin Lehner, giving them a 6-on-4 advantage. Hutton spoiled their best chance to tie the game with 32 seconds left with a skate save on Sam Reinhart.

Hutton improved to 9-1-1 in his last 11 games. The only goal he has allowed in his last three starts came on another 6-on-4 situation at the end of the game against Montreal on Tuesday night.

Looking ahead: The Blues return home on Tuesday night to host the Minnesota Wild.
