Game Report: Bruins 3, Blues 1

Jake Allen was back in goal for the Blues on Thursday night, and although he did not get the win, he had a much better game than any of his recent outings.

Allen stopped 43 of 45 shots by the Bruins in the game in Boston but still saw his record fall to 1-9 in his last 10 starts.

Only one goal came with Allen in the net, however, as the Bruins scored their first goal after Allen was pushed out of the net and could not get back in time to try to prevent the goal. The Blues challenged the goal for goalie interference but the call was allowed to stand.

The Bruins increased the lead to 2-0 on a power-play goal midway through the third period while Vladimir Tarasenko was serving a holding penalty, the first penalty called in the game.

After the Blues pulled Allen in favor of an extra attacker, Jaden Schwartz scored with 1:32 left to play but the Blues could not come up with the tying goal before an empty-net goal by former Blues center David Backes finished off the game.

Allen’s 43 saves were the most he has had in a game and the second most In his career. He was making his first start since Jan. 9.

Looking ahead: The Blues will play in Buffalo on Saturday night in the conclusion of the two-game trip.
