Game Report: Oilers 3, Blues 2

The Blues blew two leads in the third period and suffered a heartbreaking loss Thursday night in Edmonton, falling to 0-3 on their current road trip.

The Oilers came back from a 2-1 deficit to tie the game on a goal by Connor McDavid with 3:51 to play and then got the winning goal from Drake Caggiula with just 50 seconds left in regulation.

Both goals came after defensive mistakes by the Blues, who have lost three consecutive games in regulation for the first time this season.

The game was scoreless going to the third period as the Blues kept getting lucky bounces as the Oilers hit either the goal post or the crossbar five times without scoring.

Tage Thompson, recalled from the minors at the start of the trip, scored his first NHL goal to put the Blues ahead midway through the third period, but the lead lasted only 38 seconds before the Oilers tied it up.

Three minutes later, Patrik Berglund – moved to left wing on a line with Brayden Schenn and Vladimir Tarasenko – again put the Blues ahead but the lead again did not last.
Jake Allen allowed the three goals on 16 shots in the third period.

Looking ahead: The Blues will end the trip on Saturday night in Vancouver before returning home for the Christmas break.
